Eckhart was not good at things like this. He hated the thought of going through Andrea's things. He supposed he was grateful that Laura Varady was with him. Eckhart sat on the couch in the living room of Andrea's home. Varady said she would look in Andrea's bedroom or your bedroo, she corrected herself. This was Eckhart's home too in the precious short time he and Andrea were married.
Varady looked through Andrea's desk, which was against the window that looked out past way to the sky outside. She saw notepads, notebooks full of stuff such as what looked like poetry, sketches (she came across one of Eckhart) and just notes and thoughts of which Varady didn't bother reading. It was none of her business. She came across envelopes filled with concealed checks, receipts and bank deposit and ATM slips. She put those aside. Another envelope had recipes from newspapers and magazines. Another evelope included some old Genomex stuff such as id badge, some unused Genomex company stationary, paycheck stubs and what looked like copies from memos, newsletters and announcements. Another envelope contained cut out pics of cats from various magazines and newspapers, including brief small articles and Garfield cartoon comic strips. There was a cosmetic bag that had extra blush brushes, eye shadow brushes, trial-sized aspirin and other pills. Varady was finding it hard to continue looking through Andrea's things. She felt she should go and check and see what Eckhart was doing.

There is a gentle side to him, Varady remembered Andrea telling her about Eckhart. He's a romantic too. She sounded like a schoolgirl. Varady smiled at her and said that she really loved Eckhart. She really cared about him. While everyone else saw him as arrogant, creepy and basically the boss from hell, Andrea knew the real Eckhart. The one underneath the grey wigs, pinstripe suits and behind the faux skin. And it wasn't just because it was a front he put forth. There were so many things Andrea learned about Eckhart through the years-before and after Incident X. She even learned things from Eckhart. Things that Jackie didn't seem to bother to learn herself in the six years she was married to Eckhart. All Jackie was grateful for was the house Eckhart provided for her, the car, the clothes and other material things that came with Eckhart's paycheck at Genomex.
Andrea should have been living a rather fanciful lifestyle with the way the Breedloves lived and the holidays they took. But that's not how Andrea was. That's not how she lived as she got older. Andrea was fond of children, so it was no surprise that she had a small babysitting service and then she took on the babysitting job at the Eckharts babysitting their nearly 2-year-old son Grey on occasion.
Andrea enjoyed doing things for herself. She didn't want help. She was very much independent. She didn't rely on the Breedloves for much. Varady knew that Andrea and Eleanor were not very close. Sometimes Varady swore Eleanor regretted taking Andrea in as she and Paul did. Eleanor did try to force Andrea to do things such as attend some of her ladies' groups luncheons and teas. Even try to get her to wear dresses. Paul on the other hand spoiled Andrea when she was in her adolescent years. Breedlove eventually found out that Andrea cared for and loved Eckhart years later. But he didn't come between them. By this time, Andrea was a grown woman. Eleanor would have probably had a heart attack if she learned Andrea had fallen for Eckhart--a man whose children she had babysat.
