Varady: Your mother and Andrea were friends at one time. They both grew up here at Genomex. They were terrors. They pulled pranks. Nothing traumatic. Just fun stuff.

Catherine: I get the impression this Chavez lady's not too fond of me.
Varady: It's not that she's not fond of you. It's a long story.
Catherine: I seem to have all the time in the world.
Varady: Maybe it's best you hear it from Andrea.
Catherine: But she won't talk to me.

Eckhart saw Andrea through the glass window. Her back was to Eckhart. She was inserting and then dislodging disks from the computer. She was writing on the labels of the disk cases. Eckhart knocked gently on the door. Andrea merely said to whoever it was to enter. She looked up and saw that it was Eckhart. Eckhart said they needed to talk--about Catherine. Eckhart knew Catherine was the last thing she wanted to discuss. She was too much hurt and too much in pain.

Catherine: So what is it about my mom that you didn't like?
Andrea: I never said I didn't like your mom.
Catherine: You made it seem that way.
Andrea: I was maybe disappointed in her. It doesn't mean I didn't like her. It's just that your mom had this difficulty facing reality. Taking things seriously. Your mom was a good friend. We were good friends.
Catherine: Like what things didn't she take seriously?
Andrea: Her life. Her training here at Genomex.
Catherine: She took care of me.
Andrea: I'm sure once she knew about you no doubt reality sunk in then. It wasn't just her anymore in this world. She had someone else to take care of and be responsible for.
Catherine: Did you...I mean, did you know about...
Andrea didn't want to tell Catherine about Danielle's boasting and knowing she had feelings for Eckhart.
